Yutan and Norfolk Residents To Vote on Fluoridation A special mail-in ballot election has been set for November 10 giving Yutan residents a choice on whether to add fluoride to their water supply. This will be a re-vote on the fluoridation issue that was on the ballot in the general election last year. The vote last November was 292 to 265 in favor of adding fluoride--a very narrow margin. Residents concerned about the negative health effects of fluoride presented a petition to the city council in June with over 60 signatures requesting a revote. In September, the Norfolk city council voted 6-2 to give residents a choice by placing the fluoridation issue on the primary election ballot in May 2010. That action came after the council was deadlocked 4-4 on a motion that would have had fluoride added to the water supply automatically as allowed by state law. Norfolk residents previously rejected fluoridation in 1998. |
